Prophylaxis (Cleaning) 

Prophylaxis (cleaning) is a routine procedure to clean the teeth by removing deposits, i.e. plaque (bacteria), food, calculus (tartar), and stain. The teeth will be scaled (if necessary) and polished. Oral hygiene instruction will be taught, which would involve brushing and flossing techniques and the use of other products to help maintain a clean mouth, if needed. We might also discuss food choices and nutrition to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth. During this appointment the whole mouth would be examined for decay, oral cancer, TMJ problems and more. Regular preventive maintenance of this type, along with a thorough home care regimen, helps assure good oral health.
